2K Takes a Radical Approach in their MLB DS Game

I haven't reported on the DS in a little while, so here's something that caught my eye:

It's a video of MLB2k8 Fantasy All Stars, which is 2K Sports' latest attempt to leverage their baseball franchise on Nintendo's handheld.

Their first attempt, last year's MLB2K7, was roundly panned by virtually every known critic. This year, however, they are taking a radically different approach. They aren't just making the game "arcade like," a la their own "The Bigs," or even the totally awesome Power Pros on the Wii (the BEST baseball game last year, bar none). They are creating whack stadiums, bizarre player models, and other oddities to create the weirdest take on baseball I've ever seen, or at least the strangest one to use a real MLB license.

Let's hope this leads to something akin to the amazing Baseball Simulator 1.000 on the SNES- which was another odd take on America's past time that was truly classic in the annals of baseball simulators.

Gahhh!! We can only hope for something as sweet as Baseball Simulator! It’ll be rough, though, since I think part of Baseball Simulator’s weird-ass appeal had to do with it being made by Culture Brain… they were so much fun. Have you ever read any of their manuals or anything like that? Good/funny stuff! ;-)
