Blast From The Past: Nintendo On
Filed in archive Nintendo Blast From The Past on December 3, 2007
Sunday can be a somewhat slow day for Nintendo news. So, every Sunday night we are going to press the "pause" button and take a look back in time at some part of Nintendo's history.
With Mario as our guide, let's go into the "way back" machine, all the way back to...
2005

Yes, this time we only travel back a few years. Yet 2005 was an exciting year for Nintendo fans. The Gamecube was beginning to fade, and the "Revolution" was coming. But what would this new console be?
Nintendo had hinted that the direction for their new console would be radically different than their competitors. Then, a Spaniard named Pablo Belmonte created a fake video called "Nintendo On."
The video, featuring a headset "Virtual Reality" type setup, was utterly convincing. It fooled nearly everybody, and stands as one of the finest video game hoaxes of all time.
So good, in fact, that some in the industry believe that this is what Nintendo is actually planning, or perhaps predicting, they will do sometime in the future.
