Gamespot is reporting that Commodore64 games are coming to Nintendo's Virtual Console.... in Europe.
I speculate that, just like Neo Geo in Japan, it is only a matter of time before all regions of the VC receive C64 games.
Any of you readers remember this glorious 8 bit computer? We actually had one in the house for most of my childhood and even in my teenage years. Dad's old stalwart C64 machine was used since the early 1980's to run something called "CNET," a pre-internet dial-up network for rare coin and rare sports card dealers. Yep, we are talking 2400 baud modem here, people. Blazing.
I scoffed at the machine while I played Softdisk games on our "family" computer, our Apple IIgs (a wonderful computer with the same graphics architecture as the SNES, though Apple ditched it way too early). If only I knew then what I know now: a huge library of classic games could be played on Dad's old machine, and it had one of the greatest sound chips in the history of computer music, the SIDD!
Perhaps his C64 is still at home in Ohio, in the basement somewhere...
Read about the C64 on oldcomputers.net.

Yeeeahhh!! I never actually owned a C64 since I was all about the TRS-80 growing up :-P So this is great news... really unexpected! I guess that Nintendo really does have an idea about which classic games people tend to really revere, since the C64 was/is so huge with so many people. It makes you wonder if they considered emulating the Spectrum, too, since you always read about how huge it was in Europe...

I never really did hitch my wagon to a computer that was well supported in terms of games. The Apple IIGS had all the potential to be a great gaming machine (it was essentially a high resolution Super Nintendo). But Apple killed it in favor of the Macintosh and PowerPC line.
