Crecente's Wii Article
Filed in archive Revolution on April 28, 2006
Brian D. Crecente, writer for the Rocky Mountain News and Kotaku.com, has written a great piece on the Wii for the Rocky. He includes the opinions of both gamers and industry spokespeople, making for an interesting read that pretty much sums up most of the feelings toward the new console name.
Steve Manning (managing director of branding company Igor International) says, "It's interesting how bad it is," and wonders "who's going to love it." But Crecente includes some other, more sympathetic views (but not by much). Joel Johnson wrote on Kotaku.com that Wii is "one of those names that is totally brilliant in a marketing sense and completely awful in an actual sense."
In most eyes, the name sucks. Luckily for Nintendo, many gamers share the same sentiments as another Kotaku reader: "Am I happy it's called Wii? No. Will I still buy the console? Yes."
