The chart above, prepared by a site called GameFunk, was compiled using data from GameRankings.com. It begs the question: is the Wii library terrible, or is something else happening here?
Put me, unsurprisingly, in the "something else" column. First, I know of more than a few Wii games that deserve better rankings and reviews but didn't get them. There is a real problem with casual games: competent but not "great" casual games get very low review scores. Compare that to competent but not great First Person Shooters, for instance. I think Prey is a good example. solid game. Maybe it isn't brilliant. Still going to bet solid reviews.
Whereas Carnival Games, which is fun but not brilliant, got almost univerally low reviews.

I'm sort of glad that all of these somewhat-low review scores are appearing for Wii titles. I figure that it might be the biggest catalyst to help us all stop and examine how games are reviewed, and re-evaluate what these scores really mean in terms of overall enjoyment... I know that, right now, I own more Wii titles than I ever thought that I would at this point in the whole lifecycle, and I can honestly say that I think that they're all pretty great! I don't think that I could put a numerical score on each of them, but maybe that sort of hardline scoring is an idea that is on its way out...
