Ever since Square ended their exclusive partnership with Nintendo in the Super NES days, Ninty fans have had to suffer an RPG drought on every system. The Nintendo 64 had practically no role playing games, while the GameCube only had a few strong releases. The Wii is looking to be the same thusfar. One of the important GameCube RPG titles was the Baten Kaitos series, created by developer Monolith (who also did Xenosaga).

But hold the phones! Nintendo has just purchased 80% of the studio from Namco Bandai effective May 1st. Does that mean it's serious about bringing longer, more involving games to the DS and Wii? Let's all cross our fingers and hope so!
