Nintendo DS Puzzler Theta Pushes Into New Waters
Filed in archive Nintendo DS on August 25, 2007
As Nintendo continue to redefine what constitutes a console game they have managed to release some unusual success stories onto the world. Take surreal, strangely soothing music 'game' Electroplankton, or the recent Forever Blue and you find yourself with something a long way from your traditional RPG, hack-and-slash or fighting game.

Theta, which can only be described as a bizarre cross between a puzzle game and aquarium simulation (!) continues this trend, and the results look interesting. Japan Gaming Guide explain the oddball game play:
"From what we can make out, the player starts off by mixing groups of multi coloured 'atoms' together, coaxing them into place with the stylus on the bottom screen. These form 'molecules' which then end up either hatching into fish, or luring them into your aquarium"
All of this to the strains of soothing, ambient music make Theta a potentially interesting way to wind down after a frenetic Metroid session or over-energetic bout of Wii Sports. You can check out some in-game video at the (Japanese) Theta website. Once on the website click on the button that looks like this to begin the movie:

Theta is released Japan-side early September.
