Nintendo DS Sets Record for Sales in UK
Filed in archive Nintendo DS on December 15, 2009
Nintendo DS has become the highest selling games console in UK history - and that doesn’t just mean handheld ones. The record had previously been held by the PS2. As only Nintendo could, the DS has appealed to gamer and non-gamer alike, young and old, those who want to play and those who want to challenge their brains, and many households which have one have two, even three of the consoles.
This would go some of the way towards explaining how the DS has just surpassed the 10 million mark. It is a mile ahead of its big, younger brother the Wii, which it was recently revealed has sold 6 million in the UK.
The news comes out in conjunction with the latest game in the Zelda franchise, and enjoyable DS installment - Spirit Tracks. With the tradition now being to fill time between the main console’s Zelda games with handheld versions, it has been called the best DS game of the year. Anything which the enigma Shigeru Miyamoto puts his name to will surely be a contender for that crown indeed.
