Smash Bros. Dojo Site Updated
Filed in archive Wii on May 30, 2006
You must check out the new website for the Wii's Smash Bros. Dojo, specifically the character pages. Many expected returns will be made, but more importantly, there will be some new notable characters.
First is the return of Pit, the star of Kid Icarus on the NES. According to the website, "Pit is able to separate and unite the blades of the Sacred Bow of Palutena, which was given to him by the goddess. This allows him to adapt to the circumstances of any battle as he fights." Pit looks to be a powerful and well-rounded combatant in the upcoming brawler, but more interesting is the possibility of a next-gen Kid Icarus game, which seems much more likely considering Pit is already making at least one appearance on the Wii.
The next surprise isn't actually a new character, but is definitely something we haven't seen before: Zero Suit Samus. Samus removes her power suit and battles wearing a blue jumpsuit, and it's safe to say her character model doesn't stray far from the female fighting game character norm (read: she has admirable physical attributes). Without her signature suit, Samus loses power, stamina, and her arm cannon. However, Samus moves much quicker without the suit, and has a pistol in hand to replace her energy beams. The pistol can be transformed into a whip, which we can infer is her primary weapon from the official site.
Meta Knight, Kirby's archrival, is the next to make his fighting game debut. Meta Knight relies on his mastery of swordfighting, both in skill and speed, and has an "incredible" battleship as well. We'll have to wait and see what role, if any, that ship plays in battles.
While there aren't more character profiles on the site, there are a few screenshots of interest, one with a Nintendog front and center, and others displaying the amazing battle arenas of SBD. Most of the screens show combatants using their weapons, and with both Pit and Zero Suit Samus having multiple functions to their weapons, it seems possible that this game will take a step towards the Soul Caliber style of fighting game, focusing on weaponry more than button mashing.
We've also heard rumors that Solid Snake of the Metal Gear series will be a playable character in the Nintendo brawl fest, so keep your eyes open for more news and updates on this surefire hit.
