Sony Looking to Compete with Wii... with the PS2.
Filed in archive News on January 8, 2008

Floating around the ether is yet another report of Sony looking to fight Nintendo's success by using their old PS2 console. Kaz Hirai, between marathon sessions of "Riiiiidge Raaceeeerrrr," mentioned that a slew of "non-core" games will be hitting the system.
Sure, the PS2 is similar to Wii in graphical prowess... but not really. Wii is actually significantly more powerful, despite what everyone thinks, and despite what some developers have done with the system.
Besides, the PS2 is not really a casual gamers console anyway. It looks initimidating, has that complicated traditional controller, and the whole confusing "no way to turn it off" issue on the slimline models.

It'll be interesting to see if they stick with that strategy if Blu-Ray takes off like it might be poised to do... I'm sure that will move a lot of PS3s. Oh Snake, please hurry up and come out so I'll feel even less bad about thinking about buying one! SNAAAAKE!

As for me, I'll be awaiting Snake in Smash Bros. Brawl!
