Ah, Sony. The only problem they have is that they are run by humans. Humans that open their pie-holes when they should just keep em' shut. Sony Chairman Sir Howard Stringer joins the unfortunate list of corporate suits who have to toss invective towards another company (a company that is completely p0wning theirs in sales!).
Here's what he said:
"I'm happy the Wii seems to be running a bit short of hardware. The PlayStation 3 will come into its own because its [high-end games] are infinitely more fun, demanding and exciting. The question people quite rightly asked was if the PS3 was going to get through this early cycle. I feel much more confident about that now."
Infinitely more fun? Huh? Talk about an over-the-top statement. You mean all of those games on PS3 that I can also play on the Xbox 360?
Maybe Sony execs can set a few ground rules before making subjective statements about the fun level in their games. What ground rules, you say? How about these:
Make some original IP that can actually chart in its first week of release. That would be nice. Cracking the 500,000 unit mark in the U.S. during November would be good, too. Maybe even finishing second in the monthly NPD charts in America, just once.
Finally, the last requirement should simply be this: Your new console should be able to outsell your old one month-to-month before your pie-hole opens.
Did that happen for November?
I thought not.
In all seriousness, corporate exec blustering happens in all the major companies, and it is always quite annoying. Show some humility and make us some games!
