Space Invaders Extreme Gets All Rez-Like
For the generation that grew up with both Space Invaders and techno, the latest Taito offering for the DS may well be profoundly appealing. Space Invaders Extreme, coming to a Japanese DS near you very soon, promises to fuse classic gameplay with the kind of psychotronic synced-to-the-music sensory experience suppled by games like PS2 classic Rez.

Eschewing previous efforts to drag Space Invaders into the realms of hideous pseudo-3D monstrosity, Taito have instead opted to build on its compelling, hypnotic qualities, keeping the visuals oldskool. J C Fletcher reports that:
"Space Invaders Extreme looks a lot like Rez. And you will never hear us say that's a bad thing. In fact, Extreme looks pretty cool, and not just in its presentation. The movement of the Invaders is now tied into the game soundtrack (another nod to Rez), adding a new element to the already-hypnotic Invaders experience."
