Super Mario Bros Wii

News that in a few days time we will see the release of the first Super Mario Brothers game in years brought much excitement among fans of the franchise. Would it be a new 3D version of a classic, something which Nintendo got very wrong with the Sonic games and yet very right with Super Mario Galaxy? Surely the success of that game means we would have another epic on our hands?

Advertising has revealed, though, that it will be a retro recreation of the 2D platformers of old. Though somewhat less exciting, and maybe even a little disappointing, it could either be a great moment of nostalgia brought into the new realm of gaming, or incredibly boring.

A review of the game can be found here, where we hear that, in a move that thankfully sets this game aside from any other platformer you could download on WiiWare and therefore making it relevant as a Mario game, the Wii remote actually has some unique features in playing the game. You flick it to jump or pick up items, and while this may not seem like much there have been efforts to incorporate new elements, such as propeller beanies and penguin suits.

Usefully too, and in a move that is rather up to date, popwatch have carried out an interview with the genius behind the Mario games, Shigeru Miyamoto.
