Super Mario Galaxy A Borderline Commercial Failure? TheStreet.com Thinks So.
I guess being the fastest selling Mario game of all time in the United States isn't enough for Michael Comeau of TheStreet.com. He calls the game a borderline failure commercially, though he does praise it as an excellent game.

First, 500,000 units in one week does not equal failure. Indeed, it equals, well, HUGE SUCCESS. So what's the dealio?
Seems that the guy is comparing Galaxy to Halo 3's quadrillion sales in its first week.
Dumb. As pointed out by many a NeoGaf poster (with, of course, the always hilarious Picard "Slapping Forehead in Disgust" picture they use for things like this), Halo 3 had a ridiculously long pre-order period. Seriously, I think men wore top hats and women wore corsets back when ye olde Microsoft started promoting this title. Next, more money was spent on marketing than some small countries GNP.
Truth is, Mario Galaxy is doing extremely well for Nintendo in America. In Japan… it is doing just OK. But that is a reflection of the Japanese gaming market. Which is to say, since it wasn't a portable game, it didn't do as well.
