The Absurd David Jaffe Strikes Again

David Jaffe is at it again! in a farcical conversation about what he'd do if tasked with a Mario game, the man credited with creating God of War suggested that he would play up the "drug angle:"
"There's clearly a kind of drug culture reference thing that I pick up on. I'd explore that. I'd make it more violent."
I know he's kidding around (taking Jaffe too seriously is a bad idea), but this is too much of an example of viewing something via your own personal lens to let it go.
It might be true for us here in America that Mario games seem riddled with drug references, what with the mushrooms and all that. Truthfully, though, there really isn't any evidence to suggest any actual tip of the cap to narcotics use. After all, the Japanese love mushrooms..... as FOOD.
