Nintendo DS

House of Nintendo didn't have to think hard for this list, so here is our (admittedly subjective) rundown of the top five games for the DS to help you in the January sales season.
5) Assassin's Creed
Set during the crusades in the 1100s, you take on the role of Altair, a young assassin caught in the clash between the Crusaders and the Saracens in Jerusalem. A 3rd person, open and non-linear game with some surprising scenes for the DS, we were disappointed by the average of around 6 out of 10 that the major review sites have given it
4) Big Brain Academy
Hours worth of tests here to play against the DS or with a friend, it has all the favourite games seen on the Wii version and more. This will suit gamers within a range from very young to old, and the latter will love keeping their mind active in busy schedules. Take it on the train to keep you occupied during your commute!
3) The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
A new game out, additions to the Zelda series never disappoint. The developers always seem to want to release an installment for the hand-held of the time now in between the major releases, so while we wait for the next Zelda game for the Wii (which will no doubt be one of the console's last), this will keep any lover of immersive and challenging RPG's occupied.
4) Super Mario Bros DS
Another relatively new game, take a look here for a compilation of trailers which includes one for the latest addition to Mario's franchise.
1) Mario Kart DS
You can't beat the Mario Kart games these days for sheer fun, in amounts that you won't get tired of. Play against the DS or friends online, and be as relaxed or competitive as you want. With all the favourite characters, vehicles and weapons, this lacks nothing from the Wii version, and even features a handy birds-eye view of the track around you to avoid needing to look behind.
