From time to time I think it is instructive to prove my "non-fanboy" credentials and post some stuff I don't like about Nintendo. Personally, I don't think I'm a fanboy, but people I know personally as well as an assortment of trolls on messageboards I frequent probably think otherwise.
But you see, having a strong opinion about a particular companies products does not make one a fanboy. To me, fanboyism is partially defined by taking that strong warmth for one company and using it to bash another. But you'll never hear this blogger being wildly critical about Sony or Microsoft. Truth told, they are both fine companies that bring so much to the table. Plus I could be employed by them in 13 months, so I don't really want to give the impression that I only want to work on Nintendo properties!
Anyway, on a message board recently, I wrote the following stuff that I don't like about Nintendo:
1. Lack of voice chat. Yep, we've all been there.
2. Metroid Prime 3 marketing. It stunk.
3. No hard drive peripheral. It need not be huge, even just a 1 gig drive would help enormously with all the new WiiWare content.
4. Hardly any new IP that isn't "casual." Key Nintendo figures like Miyamoto seem more interested in making us less fat than creating compelling new games.
5. Nintendo's failure to make technology that could emulate realistic sword control. It's clear now that the Wii's limited motion control capabilities don't have much use beyond certain functionality. That's too bad, and it leaves a clear opening for the likes of Sony and Microsoft to make a better version of it.
