Wii News Channel launches
Filed in archive Wii by John B on January 26, 2007
Remember that whole News Channel bit about how the Wii could give you access to information on stuff that happens outside your window? Well, said channel launches in North America.... now! Newsday.com gave us a few juicy details before the official launch:

  • The Wii News Channel will primarily feature top news stories and photographs from The Associated Press (AP).

  • News will be displayed through an interactive map, which users can navigate with the Wii's wireless controller

  • The AP will supply news for the Wii in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, and Swiss-German.

  • The Japanese news company Goo will supply Nintendo's Japanese-language news.

  • There are no immediate plans to sell advertising space.

The interface is just as slick as the Forecast Channel and it makes reading the news rather nice. Categories are the usual Sports, Business, Entertainment, Technology, etc. and can be browsed by headline and read in full with ease. Stories are also organized by location and you can grab and drag the globe to read news from almost anywhere you like. It's an excellent inclusion to the Wii arsenal.
