Wii Remote Accidents – Faulty Strap or Stupidity?
By now the news of Wii Remote safety strap accidents have surely invaded your web browser. Many criticize Nintendo for using thin strings to attach the material to the remote. Me, I blame the fools who throw their video game accessories around like they're made of soft rubber foam. I can see an accident here or there, but if you're tossing your Wii Remote around the room and happen to impale your television set, it's not Nintendo's fault. It's yours.

Fortunately I'm not alone on this one. Looks like the guys at Penny Arcade are floating in the same boat as me.

I think the problem is that people just laugh at the wrist strap warnings and think “id never need that im not stupid”. But it actually does fly out of your hands if you are even just a bit sweaty. i’ve had it happen to me many times but fortunatly i was wearing the strap.

I don’t think the strap has been the problem… the issue lies with the clip on the nunchuk which the string is passed through. It tends to chafe the string on trying to remove it and this is weakening it.

If I go golfing and my club flys out of my hands and smashes something its my fault not the maker of the club. so why do people think that breaking their tv’s because they cant keep it in their sweety hands on the wii mote is the fault of nintendo.

i’ve only done this once. the one occasion i decided not to use the wrist strap (it’s only bowling – you’d have to be stupid to let go of it, i thought…) i managed to fling the wiimote across the room. thankfully it missed the tv
. (by about an inch!)

I think you should buy those ekstra rubber things to put on the remote and nunchuk. It really helps on the grip even with sweaty hands, and costs $20. Cheap compared to a new plasma tv!!!
