Wii Review Roundup: Part 4

Filed in archive Wii by Robert Howard on December 18, 2007

In today's roundup, we look at a game where you shoot Nazis, and a quiz game, both fairly well rated.

Smartypants is yet another attempt by a third party to strike gold with a casual type game on Wii. Obviously, it's a quiz game. Yet it got pretty strong reviews (for a game of its type anyway), scoring a 64 meta score and getting high scores of above 80.

Note: It is games like this where I really strongly disagree with the ultra negative reviews. C'mon GameSpylinks (score of 40)... it's a TRIVIA game. What do you want from these people?

Anyway, here is an excerpt from deeko.com:

...That is where the game itself is really smart. Planet Moon Studios took age and world location into account to customize the questions on an individual basis so that everyone can enjoy the game. [editors note: my daughter is five and can play this!] Once you start answering questions correctly in any given category, the game increases the difficulty of the next question.

Looks like a solid choice for those who love Jeopardy! and similar games. And it uses Mii's!

Next, we have Medal of Honor Heroes 2, a World War II Shooter. This got a high meta score of 77, and is considered the finest FPS experience on Wii to date, after Metroid Prime 3. In fact, I'm guessing the average first person shooter fan might like this game more, because it's got 32 player online deathmatch and it isn't "adventurey" like Metroid Prime 3.

So, if you are one of those people who didn't like Prime (you know, morons!), you should check this game out.

Thus speaks IGN.com's always affable Mark Bozon:

What it is, however, is the best controlling, most entertaining first-person shooter on Wii, and a no-brainer for hardcore gamers. Everything from IR sensitivity, horizontal and vertical look sensitivity, and dead zone (the amount of space the IR can move without beginning to push the screen) is fully customizable, allowing for near-perfect control via the Wii remote. With a few minutes of tweaking, most players will find their sweet spot, though with the options always on-hand we ended up making fine-tune changes throughout our entire first playthrough of the game right up until the review. Now that we've found exactly the right feeling though, we're deadly, and it was well, well worth the time it took to tweak it; online results are proof enough of that.

I know many of you are tired of WWII themed shooters, but this looks like a can't miss if you are an FPS loving Wii owner.
