Wii Virtual Console sales declining
Filed in archive Wii on April 17, 2007
In a a recent speech by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata it was hinted that sales of Virtual console games has been on the decline. 3.3 million games have been downloaded on the retro gaming service, 1.5 million in the first two months alone. That leaves 1.8 million downloads covering the last three months, which is a significant decline, especially since the Wii user base is expanding.
Are gamers losing interest in old games, or are the offerings not as intriguing? I have to admit, I haven't bought a VC game in some time, but not from a lack of interest. StarFox 64? Ocarina of Time? Top-notch games, folks. The sharp decline is likely due to the novelty wearing off. Everybody has to try out the new feature at first, then things level off.
