Today is Wii Ware day! Finally, original downloadable content is available on the Wii. And things are looking wonderfully promising.
Consider today's launch list. You have entries from a heavy weight like Square-Enix, who is weighing in with Final Fantasy: My Life as a King.
Yet also on the docket is something like Defend Your Castle, by small developer Xgen Studios.
So far, the most interesting entry is LostWinds, a platformer made by Frontier. It's getting rave reviews, with some saying that it is better than many full priced $50 titles! As it is, it's $10, and it has all the makings of a major hit (relative to digital download sales).
The other entries look solid, to the arcade action of Pop and the tried and true card game Blackjack. All in all a great first week. Wii Ware is already showing an advantage over Xbox Live Arcade... that it isn't just a vehicle for retro remakes and "quarter munching" shooters.

WiiWare is what officially ran my Wii out of storage space for the first time, but other than that, it's been really interesting to check out! LostWinds is fun, and the visuals are totally impressive. I have been playing Star Soldier R like it's going out of style... between that game and the upcoming Bomberman, I wonder if Hudson will be one of the main characters to watch when it comes to WiiWare!
